Three Songs by Yonatan Ratosh

For the Ratosh song cycle I selected three of Yonatan Ratosh’s “Cannan” poems, which together form a story arc: A man wandering the desert at evening time comes across a woman’s tent, asking her to show him generosity and take him in; the meeting turns into a sexually charged and graphic encounter; the woman bemoanes being left by the man, concluding she will not leave her known, comfortable environment and follow him to some unknown, ephemeral dream.

First performance and live recording of the Ratosh song cycle, courtesy of Kol Israel, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, was recorded at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art hall as part of the award ceremony of the Klon Prize for composition.
